Working from home in these times of social distancing? We thought that it rhymed with adjusting your schedules, enjoying a little more time with the kids, avoiding traffic jams or even working in a space arranged according to your tastes...but ultimately it happened differently for us!
Here is what a typical day, working from home, looks like for the Kanevas team and believe us it is not as easy as it might look!
6:40 AM...The alarm rings or rather our children wake us up! We take time with them and cover them with kisses! Once up, Kanevas' moms immediately prepare their coffee for the day ahead as well as the children's breakfast. Between a cold toast and a sip of even colder coffee that we check the emails received during the night. Yes, dear customers, many of you seem to shop at night!
8 to 11 AM : Time to get to work! Messy bun on top of the head, no makeup on and in our pjs. We always dreamed of working like that, it is now possible so we take advantage of it! We start by managing and replying to our emails in order to have a well-organized mailbox. Then we plan the day. Between the ringing phone and the crying babies, it's not easy! To avoid commute, we decided to install our offices in the kid's playroom (we are moms above all)!
11:30 : A break is essential! It's time to prepare lunch for the whole family. On the menu: chicken with vegetables and potatoes (no, it's not a poutine). We must not forget the bottle and the purees for the little ones, otherwise they do not hesitate to remind us!
12:30 : We get back to work. While our marketing coordinator is taking photos for our social media content, trying to catch good light, our co-founders are managing orders and new projects (ahah! We can't tell you more). And all this, between two feedings or during nap time!
2 PM : Dad takes care of the kids while mom goes to the office. Indeed, it is time to go and prepare your orders! At Kanevas, following the rules of social distancing is a priority. We make sure that only one person on the team is in the office at all times.
4:30 PM : Once the packages are ready to go, we take a short walk with the kids. This allows us to spend time with them and enjoy the sun!
We never forget to bring our Kanevas bag to take ours and baby's essentials ;)
5-6:30 PM : Once home, we continue to work on different tasks. The Kanevas team "gets together" (video call ;) ) regularly to talk and also taking the opportunity to report on the day. Useful tip from our marketing coordinator : if your boss calls you and you are still in your pjs, quickly put on a clean top while keeping your pajama bottoms. Don't worry, it is neither seen nor known!
So there you have it, you now know a little more about our daily life as working-mom/entrepreneurs! The whole team works very hard and it's thanks to you!
